At approximately 1:47 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, EPS Southwest Division Patrol officers responded to reports of a pedestrian collision along the ramp to Gateway Boulevard north of 23 Avenue. It was reported that a Dodge Dakota truck was traveling northbound from 23 Avenue down the ramp to Gateway Boulevard, when it struck a 25-year-old male pedestrian near the end of the ramp. EMS responded, but the male was declared deceased on scene by paramedics. The adult female driver of the truck did not report any injuries.
The EPS Major Collision Investigation Unit is investigating and has determined that alcohol was a factor in the collision.
The adult female driver of the Dodge Dakota has been charged with impaired driving causing death, and over 80 mg % causing death. Due to a publication ban, the name of the driver will not be released.

This is Edmonton’s eighth pedestrian fatality and 19th traffic fatality of 2014. Last year at this time there were seven pedestrian fatalities and 20 traffic fatalities.
