At approximately 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, a 29-year-old female was out running on a gravel park trail between McKenzie Ravine and MacKinnon Ravine. It was reported that when the jogger rounded a bend in the trail an unknown adult male allegedly jumped out of the trees and grabbed her causing both to fall to the ground. The jogger got back on her feet, and it is believed that the unknown male continued after her for a short distance. The jogger ran to the Kinsmen Sports Centre and reported it to police shortly afterwards. The jogger did not require immediate medical attention.
The suspect is described as an adult male between 30 and 40-years-old, with a slim build, approximately 6’ tall, with brown hair and a dark mustache, and was wearing a blue sweater. The male also smelled of cigarette smoke.
Police ask river valley park visitors to be attentive to unfamiliar persons, to look out for one another while on the trails, and to report any suspicious activity to police as soon as possible. There have been no other similar incidents reported in the area.
