Background:
Downtown Division officers have arrested two men in connection with a violent assault that has left a 46-year-old man with life-threatening injuries.
At 2:45 a.m. today (July 20, 2013) police were called to the area of 95 Street and 110 Avenue after a report of an assault. Upon investigation, it was determined that when a male complainant confronted two suspects in the back alley close to his residence, he was allegedly severely beaten. Paramedics treated the man on scene and he was taken to hospital, where he remains.
It was reported that the same two suspects allegedly broke into a home in the same area.
As the suspects fled the first scene, EPS Canine Unit was able to apprehend one male, who was engaged by the Police Service Dog when the suspect allegedly threatened the patrol member.
It was also reported that a residence in the area of 96 Street and 110A Avenue was allegedly broken into by one of the suspects. The home owner in the second B&E was able to fight off the suspect in the altercation and suffered non-life threatening injuries. The suspect sustained injuries as well in the altercation. Canine Unit also tracked and apprehended the second suspect shortly after he fled the scene.
The incident is still under investigation. The two suspects who have been arrested remain in police custody at this time. The complainants and suspects do not know each other, and the incidents appear to be random.
Charges are pending.
