It was reported that at approximately 4:30 a.m. (Nov. 22, 2014), a westbound Pontiac Grand Prix was travelling at a high rate of speed when it entered the intersection at 132 Avenue and 127 Street on a red light. At the same time, a man was driving a Nissan Sentra northbound on 127 Street and proceeded through the intersection on a green light, when he was struck by the Pontiac in the right front bumper area. The collision caused both vehicles to rotate out of control and the Pontiac struck a large wooden post in the northwest corner of the intersection.
The 27-year-old man in the Pontiac, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.
The 36-year-old man in the Nissan, whose vehicle also struck the same post, was treated and taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Several witnesses remained at the scene to provide police with information.
Investigations revealed that the Pontiac had just recently been stolen from the area and that speed was a factor in the collision.
Major Collision Investigation Unit continues to investigate.
