The investigation involved 15 citizen complaints from May 2012 to July 2013 regarding various claims of inhumane treatment of animals, possession of a stolen dog, and deplorable living conditions related to B.a.r.k. and its owners.
Forty-six dogs and seven cats were removed from the building at 93 Street and 111 Avenue and taken into the care of ACCC. Each animal is being physically examined for good health and scanned to determine legal ownership. Owners of animals with identification are being contacted directly by ACCC staff.
The building and property were deemed uninhabitable for human(s) and/or animal(s) by Alberta Heath Services.
Ali Sanaee, 36, is charged with failure to provide proper care of an animal (x2), willfully cause unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to an animal (x4), and possession of stolen property under $5,000.
Jessica M. Fookes, 25, is charged with failure to provide proper care of an animal (x2), willfully cause unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to an animal, and possession of stolen property under $5,000.
