“We’re going to focus increased police resources on the crime hotspots in and around the Clareview Recreation Centre, including the Clareview LRT line,” says Acting Sgt. Cathy Ruskin with Northeast Division.
This week’s deployment will be patrolling the communities of Kirkness, Hairsine, Ebbers, Bannerman, Fraser and Clareview Town Centre.
Highly visible EPS units will patrol identified hot spot locations for suspicious activities, the EPS Specialized Traffic Apprehension Teams (STAT) will increase traffic enforcement along roadways and parking lots, and officers and volunteers will educate residents and visitors about crimes in the area. Police will also be on the lookout for prolific offenders, executing criminal warrants, and checking that individuals are complying with their court-imposed release or curfew conditions. Various social agencies will also assist in connecting vulnerable persons with needed services.
Members of the public are invited to come out and speak with officers about their particular crime problems and to receive crime prevention brochures at the EPS Mobile Action Centre that will be set up for the CAT deployment. Northeast Division will also host a community barbeque from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today until Saturday, Apr. 18, 2015.
CAT deployments are part of the EPS Violence Reduction Strategy and have been successful in addressing a wide range of criminal and social issues. For more information about the Violence Reduction Strategy, please visit www.edmontonpolice.ca/vrs.
