An arrest last Thursday night by the Specialized Traffic Apprehension Team proves once again that there is no such thing as a routine traffic stop.
On Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 9:30 p.m. a member of STAT Team 1 observed a Ford F150 travelling on St. Albert Trail from Yellowhead Trail. It was determined that the registered owner of the vehicle was suspended. A vehicle stop was conducted and the driver was arrested. Other assisting STAT members detected a strong smell of marijuana in the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 5 kg of marijuana valued at between $50,000 and $75,000. The drugs were located in a hockey bag.
James Demers, 30, has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and breach of recognizance ( x2).
