A 21-year-old female has died on scene of a motor vehicle collision earlier this morning, and the driver, a 30-year-old male, is being treated in hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
At approximately 2:14 a.m., Wednesday Jul. 8, 2015, a vehicle was travelling eastbound on 82 (Whyte) Avenue. It is reported the vehicle lost control east of 99 Street, striking objects on south sidewalk before rolling-over and coming to rest upside down, underneath an apartment building awning near 98 Street and 82 Avenue.
The Edmonton Police Service Major Collision Investigation Unit required immediate road closures as they investigated, impacting eastbound motorists along Whyte Avenue, between 99 and 98 Street.
As the investigation continues, speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the collision.
Charges have not been laid against the driver of the vehicle.
This is the 13th traffic fatality of 2015.
