Charge laid in May’s fatal motorcycle collision

The Edmonton Police Service has charged an individual in the city’s second motorcycle fatality of the year.

On Thursday, May 21, 2015 at approximately 10:30 p.m., police responded to a serious injury collision between a motorcycle and a pick-up truck in the area of Princess Elizabeth Avenue and 106 Street.

It was reported that the motorcycle was travelling westbound on Princess Elizabeth Avenue, approaching 106 Street. At the same time a pick-up truck was travelling eastbound on Princess Elizabeth Avenue, in the left turning lane, to turn northbound onto 106 Street. As the truck initiated the left turn, it collided with the motorcycle.

The 48-year-old male motorcycle driver succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Friday, May 22, 2015.

On July 3, 2015 the driver of the pick-up truck, a 21-year-old female, was charged with an unsafe left turn under the Use of Highway and Rules of the Road Regulation.

There have been 25 traffic fatalities in Edmonton this year.
