EPS investigates fatal collision over long weekend

The Edmonton Police Service Major Collision Investigation Unit is investigating a collision that occurred over the weekend which resulted in a fatality.

On Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015 at approximately 11:30 p.m. police responded to the report of a single vehicle rollover on Highway 28A approaching Manning Drive. It was reported that the vehicle was travelling eastbound when it failed to stop at a stop sign before proceeding through an intersection and then rolled into a nearby field. Air 1 and STARS air ambulance attended the scene to assist.

The 26-year-old male driver and two passengers, a 25-year-old male and a 29-year-old female, were all treated and transported to hospital.

The driver sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital and the female passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The other male passenger succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Monday, Oct. 12, 2015.

Speed and alcohol are believed to have been factors in this collision.  The Major Collision Investigation Unit continues to investigate.

This is Edmonton’s 30th traffic fatality of 2015.
