The Edmonton Police Service is investigating a fatal motorcycle collision that occurred just after 9 p.m., on Monday evening, April 18, 2016.
It was reported to police that a motorcycle was travelling southbound on Calgary Trail when it collided with a street sweeper near 59 Avenue.
As a result of the collision, the 25-year-old male operator of the motorcycle has died, and the 19-year-old female passenger was sent to hospital with life threatening injuries.
The EPS Major Collision Investigation Unit has taken the investigative lead to determine if excessive speed was a contributor in the collision.
As part of the investigation, Calgary Trail Southbound, between 51 Avenue and 61 Avenue, was temporarily closed, however the route was reopened early Tuesday morning.
The male operator of the street sweeper did not sustain an injury from the collision.
