Second-degree murder charges laid in Hwang homicide

Homicide detectives have charged Nyuk Hwang, 52, with second-degree murder in connection with the death of her husband Teck Hwang, Monday, Aug. 26, 2013. “The autopsy results revealed yesterday, confirmed that Mr. Hwang was beaten severely, which only hours later cost him his life,” said EPS Homicide Staff Sgt. Bill Clark.

“Domestic violence impacts families, neighbourhoods and communities across our nation. I can’t encourage the public enough to get involved and contact police immediately, if they have information about a domestic violence situation. They might just save a life.”

Nyuk Hwang’s first court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013.

Background:
Autopsy results released by the Medical Examiner’s Office Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, revealed that Teck Hwang, 56, of Edmonton, died as a result of blunt drastic trauma.

Homicide investigators continue to interview witnesses involved with the case, which has now been confirmed a homicide, but charges have yet to be laid.

Police were initially contacted by EMS regarding an apparent case of domestic violence, which initially occurred on the evening of Aug. 25, 2013.

Police responded to a residence in the area of 84 Street and 160 Avenue at approximately 10 p.m. last night, Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, where a 56-year-old male was found in cardiac arrest. The victim was treated and rushed to hospital by paramedics, where he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 2:50 a.m. earlier Monday morning.
