The Edmonton Police Service is encouraging women who reside in and around the University of Alberta area to take precautions when walking throughout the community after dark, following an early-morning assault on a female, Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013.

The assault occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. Sunday near 111 Street and 82 Avenue. A 26-year-old female was walking home alone from work, when she was suddenly struck in the face from behind by an assailant, as she neared her apartment building.

The female victim then fell to the ground, before being choked by her assailant. The attacker then briefly fled the scene, which allowed the victim to safely enter the secured apartment lobby. Moments later, the assailant reappeared and attempted to gain access to the building, violently banging on the lobby window.

The woman ran to her suite, where she contacted police. While description details about the assailant are limited, the assailant is described as being a 6’ 0” tall male wearing a bright blue ski mask.

Anyone with information regarding this assault is asked to contact the Edmonton Police Service at 780-423-4567or #377 from a mobile phone.  Anonymous information can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.tipsubmit.com/start.htm.
