The Edmonton Police Service has charged a prolific graffiti tagger with close to 250 graffiti-related incidents on the University of Alberta campus.

It was reported to police by the U of A’s Protective Services that between October 2016 and April 2017, 249 incidents with the graffiti tag “Atlas’ occurred throughout the U of A campus on stairways, electrical fixtures, vending machines, parking barriers, garbage receptacles, chairs, doors, washrooms and heating ducts.

The total cost to repair and remove these graffiti tags is estimated at approximately $50,000.

Benjamin Jay Livingstone, 21, is charged with one count of global mischief over $5,000. Hundreds of additional charges may be pending, in connection with other Atlas-related tagging incidents across Edmonton.

This arrest is the result of a six-month collaborative investigation between the U of A's Protective Services branch and EPS Stathcona Beats.

Police encourage anyone who may have seen the accused applying the tag “Atlas” at other locations throughout the city to contact the Edmonton Police Service at 780-423-4567or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.tipsubmit.com/start.htm
