The Edmonton Police Service is investigating several overnight break and enters into storage pods that were being used by homeowners following summer flooding in their neighbourhood.

On Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, EPS Northeast Division Patrol officers responded to reports that four residential storage pods were allegedly broken into in the area of 133 Avenue and 106 Street.  Approximately 30 storage pods are located near the homes in the alley and on the street, and being used to store personal belongings and furniture and appliances while homeowners complete flood remediation and renovations in their basements.  Although it is early in the police investigation, residents have reported that property was stolen and some of what was left behind was destroyed in the process.

“This is very upsetting for the residents, many of whom are seniors,” says EPS Const. Jesse Burgess.  “They have had to deal with flooding, as well as the very expensive process of gutting and repairing their residences, only to be robbed and victimized.”

Police ask residents in the area to be attentive to unfamiliar persons in their neighbourhood, and to report any suspicious activity to police as soon as possible.  Residents are also encouraged to secure valuable or sentimental items inside their homes.

Anyone with information regarding the break and enters is asked to contact the Edmonton Police Service at 780-423-4567or #377 from a mobile phone.  Anonymous information can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.tipsubmit.com/start.htm.
