More than 100 children are gearing up for the Eighth Annual Bike Safety Festival this Saturday, which will see some children taking home a donated bicycle, and all participants walking away with new bike accessories, not to mention the positive memories generated during a fun event with EPS officers.
“Though I’m no longer a member of the EPS Beats team, I continue to organize the Bike Safety Festival, as it’s such a worthwhile initiative, which positively impacts and builds relationships within the community,” explained EPS Det. Patricia Dvorak. “Some of these children are new, not only to Edmonton, but to our country. The festival is an excellent opportunity for EPS officers to engage them in a positive way, at an early stage of their lives.”
The Bike Safety Festival is a partnership between EPS, AMA, Northlands, Brain Care Centre, Sport Central, Alberta Health Services, Edmonton Dinner Optimist Club and the Alberta Office of Traffic Safety. Children move through fun activity stations that cover everything from protecting your head to bicycle maintenance to safe cycling practices.
Please Note: Media photo and interview opportunities will be available with the children and safety experts beginning at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday in Edmonton Expo Centre, Hall A.

The annual event, which takes place this Saturday, May 27, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Edmonton Expo Centre, Hall A, will bring together 100 children from the Boys and Girls Clubs Big Brother Big Sisters of Edmonton.
The festival is designed to provide children with the necessary bicycle skills to stay safe on city streets. Thanks to various organizations, all participants will also go home with a free helmet, lock and bell, and some children, who don’t currently have a bicycle, will take home a bike to call their own.
