Police seek witnesses, tips in homicide investigation

EPS Homicide detectives are pleading with the public for information about a man who was found dead in a motel room last Sunday.

The body discovered on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013 at the Aladdin Motel is that of Jon Syah Ribut, 35, originally from Indonesia and in Edmonton on a temporary basis.

Investigations have shown that Ribut was involved in the sex trade.

Edmonton’s Medical Examiner has determined that Ribut died of blunt force trauma.

Police are asking that anyone with information on Ribut’s background, associations or whereabouts or who has had any contact with him in the past 14 days contact police. Their information could be vital to the investigation.

Police are releasing a photo of the victim in the event that members of the public may have known him under a different name.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Edmonton Police Service at 780-423-4567or #377 from a mobile phone.  Anonymous information can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

 

Background

On Sun., Nov. 24, 2013, at approximately 11 a.m., police responded to a call of trouble not known. In a motel room on scene, police found the body of a deceased male. The homicide was the city’s 22nd of the year.
