Man charged in connection with northeast Edmonton death

The Edmonton Police Service Homicide Section has charged a man in connection with a death that was reported in a home in the northeast part of the city on Tuesday night.

It was reported to police that there was an alleged altercation that occurred between the suspect and the victim leading to the victim’s death.  The victim and the suspect were both residents of the home.

The Medical Examiner conducted the autopsy on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, and has determined the cause of death to be blunt cranial trauma.  The death has been deemed a homicide.  The autopsy confirmed the man’s identity as William Maclean, 71.

Aaron Kohler, 32, has been charged with second degree murder.  The accused has been remanded.

Background:
The Edmonton Police Service investigated the suspicious death of an adult male found at a home in northeast Edmonton.  At approximately 10:38 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, police were notified of a deceased male at a house in the area of 128 Avenue and 72 Street.  Police entered the residence and located the body of an adult male.  A 32-year-old male who was allegedly known to the deceased was interviewed by police.  The EPS Homicide Section is investigated and an autopsy was scheduled to confirm his identity and the cause of death.
