At approximately 1:50 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019, Wright, 20, died from stab wounds sustained during an altercation outside of an apartment building near 24 Avenue and 104 Street in the neighbourhood of Ermineskin.
EPS Homicide Section investigators have continued investigating the 2019 homicide, which recently led to the arrest of Artin Korca, 21, in Albania.
In February 2021, Interpol issued a “Red Notice” regarding Korca, a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action. Korca was arrested by Albanian police at a border crossing in that country on Aug. 8, 2021. Albanian officials subsequently granted extradition for the accused to return to Canada to face the charge.
On Sept. 23, 2021, EPS Homicide Section detectives assumed custody of Korca in Tirana, Albania and brought him back to Edmonton to face a charge of second degree murder in connection to Wright’s death.
Korca’s first court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 27, 2021.
