Suspect in July 2020 homicide now in custody

The male suspect wanted in relation to a homicide in July 2020 is now in police custody.

Ahmed Mursal Mohamed, 35, turned himself in to police on Monday, Nov. 29, 2021, following a Nov. 3, 2021, media release notifying the public of a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest.

Mohamed has since been formally charged with manslaughter in the death of 31-year-old Abdikhadar Aden that took place in west Edmonton.

Homicide Section continues to investigate Aden’s death and believes there are additional suspects. Investigators are urging anyone with information regarding the events prior to his death to contact the EPS directly at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Background
At approximately 7:35 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, West Division patrol officers responded to the report of an injured male at a motel in the area of 153 Street and 111 Avenue. Upon arrival officers located a male inside a suite suffering from life-threatening injuries. Abdikhadar Aden was treated and transported to hospital by EMS, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, July 25, 2020.

The Edmonton Medical Examiner completed an autopsy on Aden on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, and the manner of death was confirmed to be homicide. The cause of death continues to be withheld at this time for investigative reasons.

The investigation confirmed that Aden was involved in an altercation at this location prior to police attendance.
