On Monday, April 4, 2022, at approximately 6:30 p.m. police received the report of a single vehicle collision on Calgary Trail at approximately 41 Avenue SW. The vehicle, a 2014 Land Rover, was travelling southbound when it reportedly lost control, entering the centre meridian and striking a culvert. A rear passenger was then reportedly thrown from the vehicle before the Land Rover rolled several times.
The 16-year-old male driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by paramedics to the hospital for treatment. Another passenger, a 19-year-old male, was removed from the Land Rover and airlifted to the hospital by STARS Air Ambulance with serious life-threatening injuries. Sadly, the 16-year-old male who was thrown from the vehicle died on scene, and the 19-year-old male succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
Speed is believed to be a factor in this collision.
