Edmonton Police Service (EPS) officers and City of
Edmonton automated enforcement handed out a total of 1,582 traffic violations
on Jun. 9, 2022 during Operation 24
Hours.
Of the total 1,582 traffic violations, 1,386 were solely related to speed. There were also 194 other Traffic Safety Act violations, which included 17 distracted driving violations and 69 red light violations.
During this Operation 24 Hours, Traffic Enforcement Section stopped a motorcycle on the James MacDonald bridge after it was clocked travelling double the posted speed limit (120 km/hr in a 60 km/hr zone). The driver was issued a mandatory court summons.
The Edmonton Police Service and the City of Edmonton coordinate regular enforcement campaigns throughout the year (such as Operation 24 Hours) to improve traffic safety on Edmonton’s roadways.
