Yesterday, Sept. 7, 2022, at approximately 2:30 p.m., police received numerous calls from the public advising that three people had been stabbed in the area of Hermitage Road and Henry Avenue. When responding officers arrived, they located a deceased 38-year-old male, as well as two injured females aged 32 and 41, all of whom had been stabbed. Both females were treated and transported to hospital by paramedics with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
It was reported that the male suspect first approached the 32-year-old woman at a bus stop and stabbed her. The second woman was reportedly stabbed moments later in her tent, only a short distance away. It is believed that the suspect then fatally wounded the 38-year-old male at the intersection of Hermitage Road and Henry Avenue. These incidents appear to be unprovoked, though the investigation has since determined that the suspect knew one of the women, but not the other two individuals.
During the lengthy police search of the Homesteader neighborhood and surrounding areas, several businesses, daycares, and schools were put into lockdown to ensure public safety. Just before 6 p.m., EPS officers located the suspect on foot and took him into custody in the area of 50 Street and 122 Avenue.
Homicide investigators are currently conducting interviews and the suspect remains in police custody. Once charges have been laid, the EPS will confirm the suspect’s name and any charges he will face in relation to this incident.
An autopsy has been scheduled for tomorrow, Sept. 9, 2022.
