Edmonton man facing firearm and drug-related charges

Edmonton Police Service Gang Suppression Team (GST) members have arrested and charged a 20-year-old Edmonton man with several firearm and drug-related offences.

On Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022, at approximately 4:30 p.m., police were conducting proactive enforcement in the area of 109 Street and 104 Avenue when they observed a dark grey Acura TL with an illegal license plate cover and tinted front windows parked nearby.

While conducting a traffic stop, GST members discovered a handgun in a satchel being worn by the male driver. During an arrest search, police also discovered the following:

  • Handgun with the serial number defaced
  • Magazine containing 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition in the firearm
  • 5.5 grams of fentanyl (approximate street value of $1,375.00 if sold by the gram)
  • 5.0 grams of cocaine (approximate street value of $400 if sold by the gram)
  • $270 in Canadian currency
  • Two functioning cells located on the front seat of the vehicle

Abdulrahman Mohamud, 20, is charged with:

Possession of a loaded restricted firearm
Unauthorized Possession of firearm in a motor vehicle
Possession of firearm knowing serial number is defaced
Possession for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl)
Possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
Possession of Proceeds of Crime

The accused does not possess a firearms license. Additional charges are pending.

A total of 452 firearms have been taken off Edmonton city streets thus far in 2022. Last year at this time, a total of 697 firearms were seized by police.
