Autopsy complete in central Edmonton death

An autopsy has been completed in the death of a man in central Edmonton last week. 

At approximately 6:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 2, 2023, EMS responded to a male in medical distress outside of a shelter in the area of 100 Street and 105A Avenue. The 32-year-old male was treated and transported to hospital, however, he succumbed to his injuries. Hospital staff noted injuries consistent with a gunshot wound and immediately contacted police.

Earlier today, Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, the Edmonton Medical Examiner completed an autopsy on the deceased, identified as Shane Bakewell, 32, and determined he died as a result of a gunshot wound, and the manner of death is homicide.

Homicide Section continues to investigate.
