At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 5, 2022, Northeast Branch Patrol responded to the report of a shooting in progress at a restaurant in the area of 108 Street and Castle Downs Rd. It was reported to police that a fight broke out inside the restaurant, during which multiple gunshots were fired inside and outside of the establishment. One male was reportedly shot by another male during the altercation. The suspect male then reportedly fled the restaurant. Three other males involved in the altercation also fled the scene in a vehicle and were apprehended a short time later by police. They were released without charges at the time.
EMS responded, treated and transported the injured 25-year-old male to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries at the time. He was discharged from hospital in September. No other injuries were reported.
Chadi Mohamed Ghanem, 39, Diab Ghanem, 31, and Samer Ghanem, 38, have since been arrested and are facing a combined total of 14 charges including, assault, assault with a weapon, careless use of a firearm and unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon. In addition, warrants have been issued for the arrests of Sohka Son, 40, of Seattle, Washington and Wael Hammoud, 36, of Calgary, Alberta. Son is wanted for assault and assault with a weapon, and Hammoud is wanted for assault.
Investigators continue to search for the outstanding suspect shooter and have been unable to identify or locate him. Detectives are subsequently releasing photos of the man in hopes that someone may be able to identify him.
The suspect is described as a 25 to 30-year-old male approximately 6’0” tall with a medium build.
“This was a very serious incident, and given the number of shots fired, it could have resulted in many others being injured or even killed,” says Staff Sergeant Ahmed Alkarout with the Northeast Investigative Response Team. “After exhausting all other investigative efforts, we are hopeful someone will recognize the suspect and come forward with information.”
