Background:
After a complex investigation which has taken more than a year, EPS Homicide Detectives have charged Mark Marek, 38, in relation to a video depicting the murder of Jun Lin, that was posted to the bestgore.com website.
Investigations, which began in June 2012 determined that Marek was in fact the owner and operator of the website, which was also being operated out of Edmonton. Homicide Section conducted an investigation into the website and video, which were linked to the homicide investigation of Jun Lin, in Montreal. Montreal police charged Luka Magnotta with murder in the death of Jun Lin.
Detectives arrested and charged Marek, of Edmonton, last night (July 16, 2013) with corrupting morals (Sect. 163(1)(a) of the Criminal Code).
“It is alleged that Marek posted the video online in Edmonton, knowing the video that was sent to him by Luka Magnotta was depicting a real murder,” says Staff Sgt. Bill Clark.
Marek has been remanded and will speak to bail tomorrow morning.
Homicide Detectives may be laying more charges, pending further investigations.
