The Edmonton Police Service’s Curb the Danger program encourages citizens to report impaired drivers by calling 911 or 377 on a mobile phone. These calls assist police officers, who are then able to quickly mobilize, locate and remove intoxicated drivers from Edmonton roadways.
“The involvement of concerned citizens is imperative to the success of Curb the Danger– there were more than 900 calls to police in August and 61 impaired drivers charged,” says Barney Stevens, Curb the Danger Program Coordinator. “The combined effort of the community and the EPS improves road safety in the city for all motorists and pedestrians.”
If you suspect a driver is impaired:
- Call 911 if it is safe to do so. Calling 911 in an emergency, or to report an impaired driver, is permitted while driving under the distracted driving law.
- Report the location, vehicle description, and license plate number.
- If possible, keep the vehicle in sight but do not attempt to chase the vehicle, or break the law to do so.
