Suspect arrested in vandalism spree in southeast Edmonton

The Edmonton Police Service arrested a suspect over the weekend in relation to a vehicle vandalism spree where more than $100,000 of damage was caused in one night.

A citizen called police after observing a male suspect allegedly causing damage to property in the area of 96 Avenue and 87 Street on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016. The citizen reported that he recognized the suspect from a local media report.

Southeast Division officers responded to the scene around 12:15 p.m. and arrested the male suspect. Investigators subsequently linked the suspect to the vandalism spree in the Holyrood neighbourhood.

A search warrant was executed on the suspect’s residence and evidence seized led to over 20 charges being laid.

Jason William Ross, 31, is charged with mischief under $5,000 (x19), mischief over $5,000 (x2) and theft under $5,000.

Background

The Edmonton Police Service believe over 25 vehicles were randomly targeted and vandalized in the Holyrood neighbourhood (75 Street to 85 Street and 93 Avenue to 98 Avenue) between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016. The damage caused to the vehicles is estimated at $100,000 which includes slashed tires, broken mirrors and key scratches.
