At approximately 9:47 p.m. yesterday evening, Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018, the Edmonton Police Service responded to the report of a two-vehicle collision in the area of 66 Street and 123 Avenue.
Based on the information provided to police, it was determined that one of the two vehicles involved in the collision had been reported stolen.
Upon arrival, officers approached the reportedly stolen vehicle. An incident occurred between the male driver and the officers. One of the officers subsequently discharged their service weapon.
The male driver was struck and killed. The male passenger was not injured and was taken into custody.
The driver and passenger of the other vehicle were not injured. No EPS officers were harmed during this incident.
The EPS will not be providing further comment as the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has since taken the lead in this investigation.
